Booze free bar owner responds to 'w***y hipster drink' jibe and says 'we aren't going anywhere'

An alcohol free bar in Manchester has clapped back at a cruel jibe referring to their offering as ‘w***y hipster drinks’.

Love From was created by podcast host Karl Considine last year and debuted with a pop-up space within the city's Kampus neighbourhood on Aytoun Street in October 2023. The space features cocktail masterclasses and art workshops designed to create a sober space for people to socialise without alcohol.

Founder Karl, who is an Alcohol Change UK (ACUK) Ambassador and has now been sober for more than two and a half years, previously told the M.E.N: “We’re creating a space for people to connect in a setting that serves super tasty alcohol-alternative drinks coupled with hosting awesome events.”

However, Love From recently faced criticism with one social media user suggesting that if the bar were still operational in 12 months, they would consume "humble pie" alongside one of Love From's "w***y hipster drinks."

The comment says: “If your bar is still going in 12 months do a call out post and I’ll eat humble pie washed down with one of your w***y hipster drinks”.

Responding on Instagram, Love From stated: "We absolutely love what we are doing at Love From but it doesn't come without its challenges...

“We regularly get comments like this, sometimes daily. Even though we exist for purpose, the internet still likes to be mean to us and sometimes it takes its toll.

“Who would have thought an alcohol-free bar can create such a reaction that someone feels the need to be like this. BUT - We aren't going anyway.”
