Borna Barisic Rangers exit sealed and John Lundstram could join him out the door
Trabzonspor have agreed a deal to sign Borna Barisic and are confident of landing John Lundstram after Rangers’ domestic chase is over.
The Turkish side have put lucrative offers on the table for the out-of-contract Ibrox pair. A deal has been thrashed out with the Croatian international, 31, and he is expected to sign a two year deal in the summer, with an option of another 12 months. Lundstram, 30, has been offered a three year deal by Trabzonspor but the player is focusing on trying to land a first Premiership title medal with Rangers.
Rangers are currently chasing down Celtic’s three point lead and looking to overturn that over the last four league games and then they have the Scottish Cup final against Celtic. Lundstram, who is one of Rangers’ highest earners, has been offered an extension at Ibrox but his earning capacity will be increased significantly in Turkey. Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Dogan refused to confirm a deal for Barisic and a pending move for Lundstram but admitted they hope to wrap up some of their transfer business very soon.
Dogan said: “It would not be right for me to confirm names here. Some are right, some names are wrong, but with regard to the names mentioned, I can only say we are working in coordination with the manager, Abdullah Avcı.
“We plan to complete most of the transfers for the new season in the coming days. The aim is to start the season with a ready-made squad that the entire technical team has approved for the pre-season camp. Therefore, we are progressing that aspect of the work quickly with our manager and his team. We’ve done the hard part.”
Rangers boss Philippe Clement has already said he wants to make sure that none of their key players run down their contracts in the future.
