A referee was assaulted after a football match in York which saw two players sent off.

York City had just lost 1-0 to Eastleigh in the National League at the LNER Stadium on Saturday, April 6. York players Zanda Siziba and Ryan Fallowfield were shown the red card in quick succession, on the 74th and 77th minutes, respectively.

North Yorkshire Police has issued a CCTV image of a man they would like to speak to in connection with the incident. A bottle was thrown at the referee as he was walking from the pitch towards the tunnel.

The suspect was then seen leaving the ground with a small child. North Yorkshire Police said: "Please contact us if you recognise the person pictured on CCTV as they may have information that will assist our investigation.

"We appreciate that the quality of the image is low but it may help jog someone's memory. Any information could help our enquiries."
