Bowen Yang hints some ‘SNL’ cast weren’t happy about Nikki Haley appearance

NEW YORK — “Saturday Night Live” cast member Bowen Yang subtly addressed GOP presidential hopeful Nikki Haley’s recent surprise appearance on the show.

In a since-deleted Instagram post, the funnyman posted a photo of a note from the show to Haley, which read “Welcome to Studio 8H! From, Lorne + everyone at SNL.”

Yang captioned the “everyone! :)” — a possible indication of how he felt about Haley showing up during the long-running comedy show’s latest episode.

Before deleting the post, Yang disabled comments.

In the cold open sketch, Haley “confronts” Donald Trump, played by James Austin Johnson, at a fake town hall event. Notably, Haley walked back a recent gaffe about the cause of the U.S. Civil War during the segment.

Haley’s appearance on the show came a week after comedian Dave Chappelle, who was not the show’s host, joined the cast onstage at the end of the show, seemingly to Yang and cast member Sarah Sherman’s dismay. Figures like Trump and Tesla’s Elon Musk have inspired similar reactions from the cast and viewers in recent years.

The show is also scheduled to welcome comedian Shane Gillis as host for the Feb. 24 show despite the fact he was previously fired a day after he was hired when his history of racist and homophobic comments was deemed “offensive, hurtful and unacceptable.”
