An 11-year-old boy has been hit by a car while out riding his bike in Rotherham.

South Yorkshire Police were called to Manvers Way in Wath upon Dearne at around 4.30pm on Wednesday, July 10 after reports of a crash between a cyclist and a car. Yorkshire Ambulance Service took the boy to hospital for treatment, but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening or life-changing.

The driver of a silver Mercedes remained at the scene and assisted officers with their enquiries. Manvers Way was closed while emergency services worked at the scene - which caused long delays for drivers travelling in the area, and on surrounding routes. The road reopened at around 6.20pm.

Police are appealing for anyone who saw anything in connection with the crash to get in touch. A spokesman for South Yorkshire Police said: “Anyone with information should call 101 quoting incident number 573 of July 10.”
