A 22-year-old driver has been jailed after two separate high-speed car crashes he was involved in left a friend dead and a passenger paralysed.
Jordan Tedstone, 22, was driving a Volkswagen Scirocco at speeds up to 70mph in May 2019 when the first crash happened in Birmingham.
His friend Kieron Mason, 23, who was driving a Volkswagen Polo in the same direction on Frankley Lane in the city, was involved in a head-on collision with an oncoming taxi and died.
The taxi driver and his passenger were injured, but their injuries were not life-threatening.
While on bail awaiting trial, Tedstone was involved in another crash on 13 June this year in Rubery, Birmingham.
Tedstone lost control of the Mercedes he was driving and mounted the pavement then ploughed into a bus stop.
One of the three passengers in the car - a 22-year-old man - was left paralysed after suffering permanent spinal cord damage.
Another passenger, 19, suffered leg and pelvis fractures and a third was also hurt, but less seriously.
Tedstone, of Weoley Castle, Birmingham, was jailed for four years and nine months at Birmingham Crown Court this week for dangerous driving, causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving with no insurance.
He was also disqualified from driving for seven years.
Sergeant Julie Lyman, from West Midlands Police, said: "Tedstone drove at speeds around residential streets with no care for anyone else’s safety.
"His reckless actions have resulted in some catastrophic consequences in not just one, but two collisions.
"He has rightly been jailed and we will continue our fight to take dangerous drivers off our streets and make the West Midlands safer."
After the case, Kieron Mason's family described him as "a really happy, care-free lad who was the life and soul of any party" and "devoted to his family".
