Shocking footage has shown a boy kicking and shaking a defenceless cat in footage the RSPCA described as “upsetting”.

The boy - who is believed to be a teenager - was seen lifting the cat by the back of its neck before shaking it and kicking it as he dropped it to the ground.

Shocked witnesses to the incident, that took place on in Canford Heath, Poole, alerted the animal welfare charity to what they had just seen.

The boy was spotted attacking the cat while walking with a group of five youngsters – four boys and a girl.

The incident took place at the junction of Sherborne Crescent and Adastral Road in Canford Heath shortly after 6.20pm on April 28.

Following an appeal to find those responsible, the RSPCA have confirmed that they are no longer looking for further information.

They added in a statement: “We are so grateful to people who report suspected animal suffering, and grateful to everyone who helps our investigations.

“Unfortunately we are unable to discuss specific individuals, and what action may have been taken.

“We understand how frustrating that is for animal lovers but releasing information could prejudice a future investigation or could lead to us being fined.
