Boys, 11 and 15, taken to hospital after being rescued from river in London

Two boys have been taken to hospital after being rescued from a river in West Drayton.

Emergency services were called to the River Colne just before 6.40pm yesterday (May 8).

Firefighters used water equipment to rescue two boys, aged 11 and 15, from the water.

The pair were taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service where their conditions are unknown.

One man also exited the water before the arrival of the brigade but declined medical treatment.

The incident was over for firefighters just before 8.40pm.

Two fire engines from Heathrow and Hayes and rescue units from Wembley, Bethnal Green attended the scene.

A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: “The best thing you can do if you see someone in difficulty in the water is to call 999, try to give an exact location about where you are and keep your eyes on the last spot you saw them.

"If you go into the water to rescue people, pets or belongings, you could be putting yourself at risk as well.”

The full London Fire Brigade statement says: “The Brigade's fire and rescue unit crews used water rescue equipment to assist an 11 year-old boy and a 15 year-old boy from the water.

“Both boys were taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service. One further adult man exited the water before the Brigade arrived and declined medical treatment.”
