Based on Ian Fleming’s story and 1968 film, absent-minded inventor Caractacus Potts restores a broken-down old racing car with the help of his children Jemima and Jeremy. The family discover the car has magical powers, and along with Truly Scrumptious and Grandpa Potts, go on an adventure to far off lands.

Director Thom Sutherland told the Daily Echo: "Chitty is like an old friend. I used to watch it as a child and was in the audience at the very first preview of the London Palladium production, so it feels very special to be putting my own stamp on it.

"I’m so excited to be opening in Southampton. As Artistic Director of the Mayflower I’ve been really focusing on what our audiences love and what they want to see, and I think Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is absolutely made for them."
