Breaking: Aston Villa secure Champions League qualification after Man City beat Tottenham

Aston Villa have officially secured Champions League qualification after Manchester City beat Tottenham 2-0 this evening.

It's now mathematically impossible for Tottenham to catch Villa, with five points separating the sides ahead of Spurs' final game of the campaign against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Sunday.

Villa could reach a total of 71 points this season, but they have already secured their second-highest points total in a top-flight campaign. Their best tally came in 1992-93 when the club finished second on 74 points.

Emery's side moved a point closer to securing their top four position on Monday after coming back from a two-goal deficit to draw 3-3 with Liverpool. Jhon Duran came off the bench to score twice in the 85th and 88th minute in front of the Holte End.

Villa were knocked out of the Europa Conference League by Olympiacos at the semi-final stage last week, but qualification for UEFA's elite club competition marks a tremendous campaign for the club.
