'Breathtaking' Colors Seen in Clouds Above Ohio Town

What one local called a “breathtaking” moment of color was seen in the clouds above the town of Oak Harbor, Ohio, on April 25.

Alexis M Claybaugh, who recorded this footage, described the phenomenon as “vivid” and “rainbow-colored” and said it lasted for about 10 minutes then, “faded and just disappeared”.

Local forecasters said it was likely an example of cloud iridescence.

According to the National Weather Service, cloud iridescence is the result of diffraction, “when small water droplets or small ice crystals in cirrus clouds scatter the sun’s light.” Credit: Alexis M Claybaugh via Storyful
