Brendan Galloway and Mickel Miller in Plymouth Argyle contract talks

Plymouth Argyle have been holding talks with defender Brendan Galloway and wing-back Mickel Miller over new contracts, director of football Neil Dewsnip has confirmed.

They both have deals which run out this summer but Dewsnip sounded optimistic they would extend their stays at Home Park if the Pilgrims successfully retain their Championship status. Miller will miss out on playing in the final three fixtures of the season which will decide whether Argyle stay up or go down to League One because of a knee injury ligament.

The 28-year-old had to be substituted in the first half of the 1-0 victory over then league leaders Leicester City at Home Park last Friday. One consolation for Miller is that the damage is not as severe as it might have been.

Dewsnip said at a Press conference today: "I think he thought it was worse actually than what it has proven to be. I mean, four to six weeks out and missing the season is still not great but it could have been a lot worse.

"I think we are grateful for that. Mickel has got to dedicate himself to get back as fit as possible and be raring to go for the new season."

Miller has made a total of 29 starts and 20 substitute appearances for Argyle since joining as a free agent from Rotherham United on a two-year contract in the summer of 2022.

His amount of game-time has been limited by injuries during his time at Home Park but he has performed to a good level in the Championship this term.

Dewsnip continued: "His contract does run out (at the end of June). Negotiations have already taken place so we are well down the pathway. I notice that social media allegedly said that he was leaving with another player. I don't really know where that has come from, but so be it."

The other player that Dewsnip was referring to was Galloway. "We have talked to both players, we have talked to both agents and discussions are ongoing.

"There is the obvious isn't there? What league are we in? I think both players have done well in the Championship. They want to stay in the Championship. So would you, so would I. So I don't really foresee too many issues as long as we are in this league."

Galloway, 28, has also had to deal with injury issues since signing for Argyle in the summer of 2021 following a successful trial after leaving Luton Town. He has make 66 appearances, with 50 of them starts, over the past three seasons.
