Brendan Rodgers admits that managing Celtic is "about a feeling" that he hints can't be replicated elsewhere as he reflects on returning to Glasgow from Leicester City.

Rodgers had won the Scottish treble for two years on the spin when he left for the King Power Stadium mid-way through his third season at the club, taking over from Claude Puel. He guided Leicester to fifth and a Europa League place in his first full season, won the FA Cup and finished fifth in the Premier League in his second.

It got tougher from that point and he left by mutual consent in April 2023 following five defeats in six games that left City in the relegation zone. There were 10 games remaining but Leicester were doomed to the Championship, from where they have just returned at the first attempt.

Rodgers bounced back at Celtic in the June, signing a three-year deal to replace Spurs-bound Ange Postecoglou and he eventually guided the club to the Scottish Premiership title and Scottish Cup.

“Professionally for me, every season in my life has been a challenge since I have been a coach," he has said in an interview with the Celtic View. "I wasn’t a big name player so I’d never had that protection of being that, so nothing has ever come easy for me in my coaching and professional life.

"This season was no different. There were other, different challenges within that, but that’s where I always feel I’m at my best, when the challenge is there and the pressure is on then that’s something I enjoy, proving the point. So from a professional perspective, I was really pleased that we grew as the season went on because that’s what is important – coming in, picking up a group of players and convincing them to work how we want to work, and then seeing that develop and grow as the season goes on. To then finish with a double was absolutely brilliant, and everyone is now away into the summer really proud of their club, and that’s what you want.

“I had a really great time at Leicester – good people, a fantastic club, and we created history there – but Joe Hart said it, and he was right – Celtic is about a feeling and that was what we wanted coming back, from a personal perspective – me and all my family, and we’ve been able to feel that since we’ve been back.

“So, for me, I’m very lucky to manage such an amazing club and I want to be here for as long as I can and bring as much success as I can.”
