Brexit day: The best reactions to the triggering of Article 50

Theresa May has signed the letter that officially triggers Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty, beginning the process of Britain leaving the European Union.

The Prime Minister was pictured sitting in the cabinet office beneath a portrait of Britain’s first Prime Minister Robert Walpole, signing the document that will be hand-delivered to European Council President Donald Tusk at lunchtime on 29 March.

The move will spark a two-year negotiation process to decide the terms of Britain’s departure from the EU.

It’s safe to say that the reactions to the official beginning of the Brexit process have been somewhat mixed.

Some voiced their concerns that Britain might be taking a risky step…

Others trotted out some pictures that Theresa May might hope to forget as she urges us all to unite behind the Brexit effort.

Others took it upon themselves to remind the Leave campaign of a certain promise they daubed across the side of a bus.

But it wasn’t all doom and gloom. A certain Katie Hopkins couldn’t have been more pleased.
