Brexit day: The best reactions to the triggering of Article 50
Theresa May has signed the letter that officially triggers Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty, beginning the process of Britain leaving the European Union.
The Prime Minister was pictured sitting in the cabinet office beneath a portrait of Britain’s first Prime Minister Robert Walpole, signing the document that will be hand-delivered to European Council President Donald Tusk at lunchtime on 29 March.
The move will spark a two-year negotiation process to decide the terms of Britain’s departure from the EU.
