Bride killed in wedding day crash: Groom tells memorial that 'she's up there smiling for sure'

A memorial has been held for a bride who was killed on her wedding day, with her husband saying he is feeling "just as good as I can".

Aric Hutchinson was seriously injured in the crash that killed his new wife Samantha Miller, 34, in late April.

He suffered a broken back, two broken legs and a brain injury and used a wheelchair for the beachside vigil on Saturday.

About 100 mourners gathered at Folly Beach in South Carolina, the same beach where the couple married just hours before the crash.

"My body's getting back to where I can manage," he told local TV station WCSC at the memorial.

"It's just as good as I can feel with the situation, but obviously, today and the outpouring of people was just amazing. I know Sam would love it.

"I mean, she's a beach girl, through and through," he added.

"We do walk here almost every morning, and this is her send-off for sure. She's up there smiling for sure."

Ms Miller was killed when an alleged drink driver crashed into a golf cart carrying the couple as they left their wedding reception.

Jamie Lee Komoroski, 25, faces one charge of reckless homicide and three charges of drink-driving causing great bodily harm.

Andrew Gilreath, public safety director for the Folly Beach area where the crash took place, said data retrieved from her rental car indicated she was driving at 65mph in a 25mph zone and only briefly hit the brakes before she hit the golf cart.

Despite telling officers that she only had two alcoholic drinks that night, her blood alcohol content was more than three times the legal limit, according to a toxicology report.

Two other people who were in the golf cart were also injured.
