Bridgerton’s Luke Newton has teased that things are set to get even “spicier” than the carriage scene in upcoming episodes.

The third series of Netflix’s Regency-era hit has been split into two parts. The first includes a now infamously steamy carriage scene for Newton’s character Colin Bridgerton and his love interest Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan). It is the sizzling scene that has got everyone talking, and the pair have added to all the buzz by sharing that when they filmed it they kept kissing for much longer than planned, as they didn’t hear the director calling: “Cut!”

Discussing the scene on ITV’s This Morning, the actors – whose characters have been dubbed “Polin” by fans – have now hinted that things are set to get even racier.

Newton said: “The carriage moment is crazy because in comparison to what we see later on… I mean, it’s a beautiful, beautiful moment and it is so authentic and true to their love story, but it gets even sort of spicier as we go on.

“Particularly in the start of the next block. So I didn’t really expect the reaction to that scene.”

The actor also shared how he had stopped his mum watching any of the steamier scenes so far, as Colin and Penelope’s long friendship becomes a romance.

“I am a little bit scared about it,” he admitted. “But I’ve prepped her… I can be there for damage control, block her eyes maybe.”

Derry Girls star Coughlan also weighed in on all the talk about the pair getting so into a scene that they broke some furniture on set.

"We were just really going for it!" she laughed. "We definitely felt, because we have worked together for so long, that we could kind of communicate without having to say much. But I know that we were both thinking, 'We are killing this!'

"And then it just sort of went ka-dunk!" "And collapsed!" Newton chimed in.

Host Ben Shephard asked what the piece of furniture was that the stars broke, but they refused to spill the beans. "You'll have to wait and see!" teased Coughlan.

Newton added: "There is a beautiful moment where they laugh, and we were obviously laughing at that moment."
