‘Bridgerton’ Storms Back Up the Streaming Top 10 as Part 2 Arrives on Netflix | Charts

When “Bridgerton” finally returned to Netflix with four new episodes on May 16, fans had been clamoring for the soapy historical romance series after a two-year break. As a result, the series stormed to the top of the most-watched streaming programs on the Samba TV Weekly Wrap Report. The third season of the show remained in the top spot for two consecutive weeks and never left the Top 10 over the past month, although it did slide to 10th place for the June 13 edition of this column.

Never fear, reinforcements have arrived in the form of four new episodes comprising Part 2 of “Bridgerton’s” split third season. The quartet of new content was enough to shoot the title back to the top of the chart for the week of June 10 to June 16, with 1.9 million U.S. households watching episode five over the first four days it was available.

That was roughly equivalent to the 2 million households that watched Season 3, Episode 1 in that same four-day premiere window, indicating that the two-part drop helped elongate the discovery window without sacrificing viewers who prefer to watch the whole thing at once.

Bridgerton isn’t the only big return on this week’s streaming chart. “House of the Dragon” soared up the charts this week, with 1.3 million U.S. households tuning in to the season two premiere on Sunday, June 16. While those are great one-day numbers for a streaming program, they’re only half the audience that watched the show’s debut episode two years ago.

Still, the buzz for the return of HBO/Max’s “Game of Thrones” spinoff was evident by the fact that “House of the Dragon” season 1 also made the chart this week, drawing enough viewership for fourth place.

In between “Bridgerton” and the double “Dragon” is “Hit Man,” the feature-length action comedy from Netflix that topped the chart last week. The fifth and sixth spots belong to the kind of surprise hits Netflix is known for, with an older TV show and a foreign-language film. The show is “Your Honor,” a Showtime series that ended last year, while the flick is the French-language killer shark movie “Under Paris.”

Not to be outdone, Amazon Prime has a returning series of its own with “The Boys.” The fourth season of the superhero skewering series lands in seventh this week.

The Star Wars series “The Acolyte” on Disney+ comes in eighth, followed by the reality dating series “Perfect Match” on Netflix. In 10th place is “Crazy Rich Asians,” the 2018 blockbuster that was added to the Netflix library.

It was a theatrical week atop the linear chart. “America’s Got Talent” retained its spot atop the chart, where it will likely sit for most of the summer. Meanwhile, “The 77th Annual Tony Awards” drew enough Broadway fans for second place this week.

After that, the linear chart is dominated by game shows. NBC has two entrants, with “American Ninja Warrior” at No. 3 and “The Wall” at No. 7. Iconic “Wheel of Fortune” host Pat Sajak signed off last week, but even in a week of reruns the show was able to place four entrants on the Top 10. Those are joined by “Jeopardy!” at No. 9.

Closing out the chart is the lone piece of scripted content, “Air,” the 2023 Ben Affleck film based on the true story of wooing Michael Jordan to sign with Nike. It made its broadcast debut on ABC on June 12.
