Joe Alwyn has opened up about his split from Taylor Swift and the public scrutiny that followed, amid rumours that he's alluded to in her latest album.

The 33-year-old actor, who attended Bristol University, and the 34-year old singer-songwriter were together for six years before their break up last year. Taylor is now in a relationship with Kansas City Chiefs Tight End Travis Kelce, while Joe is also thought to have moved on.

Speculation has been rife that some lyrics in Taylor's album 'The Tortured Poets Department' are about Joe, which was released in April and topped the UK charts, breaking several records in the process.

Now, weeks later, Joe has spoken out about the speculation surrounding him and his separation from the Brit Award-winning artist. He acknowledged that navigating the end of a long-term relationship can be "hard", especially when it's under the public eye.

Speaking to the Sunday Times Style Magazine, as reported by PA Media, he said: "I would hope that anyone and everyone can empathise and understand the difficulties that come with the end of a long, loving, fully committed relationship of over six and a half years. That is a hard thing to navigate", reports the Mirror.

Joe, known for his roles in films such as The Favourite (2018), described the public scrutiny following a break up as "unusual and abnormal".

He expressed his discomfort at how quickly personal matters become public fodder, allowing everyone to "weigh in", leading to speculation and distortion of facts.

He added: "There is always going to be a gap between what is known and what is said." He has come to terms with this reality, he added.

The actor revealed that both he and Taylor chose to keep the intimate details of their relationship private, insisting it was never meant to be commodified. He sees no reason to alter this stance now.

Reflecting on life a year after their split, Joe feels fortunate to be in a good place both professionally and personally. He stated that he feels "really good".

The Sunday Times Style Magazine interview coincides with Taylor's Eras Tour, which is currently in the UK. The Lover singer has already graced stages in Edinburgh and Liverpool since the tour's launch last year.

The pop icon is due to perform in Cardiff and London soon, before heading to Ireland and other European destinations.
