Bristol City's key dates for the summer on eve of Euro 2024 and transfer window opening

It may be challenging right now, as you look out of your window, to classify it as “summer”, and indeed officially that particular season doesn’t begin until next week, but in football terms the advent of a major tournament is one such signifier of that time of year.

Euro 2024 kicks off in Germany with the tournament coinciding with the opening of the second transfer window of the year, the summer one that is. From tomorrow until August 30 - an earlier than usual closing date - clubs in the Premier League and EFL can ratify any incomings secured so far, with some deals already being rubber-stamped, and conduct their business ahead of the new campaign.

Those Bristol City players not involved for their national teams will also be in the thick of off-season training with the first-team squad due back at the High Performance Centre towards the end of the month for testing, before pre-season begins in earnest.

Before that is confirmation of the schedule for 2024/25, with fixture release day just nine days away and a degree of curiosity around how the matches will fall given the new TV deal with Sky Sports and how that might alter kick-off times.

City have announced five friendlies so far as part of their pre-season programme, with the squad also likely to take part in an as-yet unconfirmed training camp outside of the familiar fields of Failand, while fans will be eagerly waiting for news of the new home, away and third kits for the forthcoming campaign.
