Jed Ward - 7

The goalkeeper had a good game and conceded twice while losing. That emphasises the nature of the game. Ward was called into three excellent stops in the first half before eventually being beaten by Josh Magennis. Having not seen a replay of the second goal at the time of writing, it's impossible to suggest that the 20-year-old could have done better with Jonny Smith's long-range strike. Probably the only Rovers player who can be relatively pleased with his own personal display.

Luca Hoole (off for James Connolly 67') - 5

The right-back has been much better in recent appearances but he certainly wasn't the only one who looked below the standards he's set for himself. Wigan were continuously able to get crosses into the box while there was little support from those out wide when Rovers went forward, and that included Hoole. Obviously, the question now relates to whether or not he's been handed a contract for next season.

James Wilson - 5

The centre-back certainly won't want to watch the first goal back but he's not the only one. As an entire defensive unit, Rovers were poor for good spells in the game so Wilson isn't the only one who was below par but there were too many times when it was just too easy for the hosts. On a positive note, the defender did pick out some decent switches.

Elkan Baggott - 6

Not as convincing as he has been in recent weeks which is a shame given how impressive the Indonesian has been but at least he offered a bit of threat from set-pieces and got his head on a good number of the deliveries that came into his box.

Harvey Vale - 5

A disappointing final display in a Rovers shirt from the Chelsea loanee who has largely been excellent for the Gas. Lost too many individual battles and got caught out too frequently. A tricky afternoon for the youngster.

Jordan Rossiter (off for Luke McCormick 67') - 6

As expected, the midfielder got his body in the way on a handful of occasions to help the Gas in their defensive efforts and looked composed on the ball. The next question is whether he's still at the club next season.

Antony Evans - 6

One of Rovers' livelier players on the day and certainly looked as though he would be the architect of a Rovers breakthrough in the first half. Annoyingly the timing of the second goal took any potential wind out of the visitors' sails as they showed very little suggestion of getting a goal back in the second half.

Luke Thomas (off for Kofi Shaw 79') - 5

Whether it was due to him having an off day or not being used enough by his teammates, the winger rarely seemed to be involved. Admittedly, there was very little attacking play to get involved in but Rovers certainly could have done with the wide man's quality shown in recent weeks.

Brandon Aguilera (off for Kamil Conteh 52') - 6

Looked one of the more likely players to make a difference in the final third for Rovers in the first half as the Nottingham Forest loanee got himself into a few decent positions but a blocked shot was the closest he got. Off the ball though the 20-year-old evidently struggled which could be a reason for the change.

Scott Sinclair - 6

Admittedly the winger had a very quiet second half but appeared to be Rovers' most dangerous player going forwards. Sinclair was unlucky not to open the scoring with an effort deflected narrowly wide as he sought to bury the ball in the far bottom corner which ended up being the Gas' best chance.

Jevani Brown (off for Harry Vaughan 79') - 5

Maybe slightly harsh on the forward who has been playing out of position in these past two matches amid Chris Martin's suspension but, as we've previously clarified, the 29-year-old isn't an out-and-out striker. Very rarely did the Gas look threatening in the final third as the final pass wasn't right or Wigan got a body in the way but the visitors didn't appear to have a focal point. In fairness, Brown did drop deep on a few occasions and win the ball back before releasing a teammate, evidence of his creative nature when playing deeper.

Substitutes:

Kamil Conteh (on 52') - 6

Tried to make a difference but the game was 2-0 when he came on and Rovers showed very little threat of get themselves back in the game.

Luke McCormick (on 67') - 5

Came on and got booked while struggling to make an impact in the final third along with his teammates in the second half.

James Connolly (on 67') - 6

Didn't concede after coming on but Wigan certainly had chances to increase their advantage.

Kofi Shaw (on 79') - N/A

Came on too late to make an impact with the game already 2-0 but great to see the Academy Player of the Year get a deserved debut.

Harry Vaughan (on 79') - N/A

Same as above, came on with the game already lost.
