BRIT Awards moves to a Saturday for the first time ever for 2023

The BRIT Awards has announced its date for 2023 – and for the first time ever, it will be on a Saturday.

It usually takes place and broadcasts live midweek, but organisers say that they are hoping to make the ceremony available for more people to watch than ever before by moving it to a prime time weekend slot, which is set for Saturday, 11 February.

Also announced for 2023 is a brand new chair of the BRIT committee – Damian Christian, managing director and president of promotions at Atlantic Records (part of Warner Music UK).

He said: "The BRITs is the biggest night of the year for the UK music industry, and we want as many eyes on it as possible as we showcase the best and most diverse British talent.

"Moving the show to a Saturday will breathe new life into the iconic ceremony, while also introducing a new and more engaged audience."

Next year's BRITs will mark 30 years of ITV as broadcasting partner, with the awards set to air live on ITV and new streaming service ITVX.

It will take place at London's O2 Arena, the 13th year that the venue will have been used.

The 2022 ceremony saw Adele sweep the board as winner of the best album award for 30 and best single for Easy On Me, as well as picking up British Artist of the Year.

Little Simz, Dave, Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish, Sam Fender and Ed Sheeran all featured at the ceremony too, which was hosted by comedian and Masked Singer star Mo Gilligan.

It was the first BRIT Awards to no longer use gendered categories and also revived four genre categories – alternative/rock, dance, hip hop/rap/grime and pop/R&B.

Hosts, performers and nominees are yet to be announced for the 2023 awards, with 2022's nominations announced in December 2021.
