Busker Maxwell Thorpe and 13-year-old ventriloquist Jamie Leahey have made it through to this Sunday's Britain's Got Talent final.

Appearing on the first semi-final on 30 May, the two advanced through to the final thanks to receiving the most audience votes.

Thorpe had the most overall votes from the viewing audience.

Leahey then went up against the magician Junwoo with the judges unable to separate them.

The decision went back to the audience vote with the teenage ventriloquist coming out on top.

Other acts to perform on the first night of semi-finals included the 77-year-old singer Mel Day, the dance troupe Born to Perform, impressionist Suzi Wild, magician The Witch and the London Community Gospel Choir.

Leahey was given plenty of praise by the judges with Simon Cowell telling him he deserved to be in an Andrew Lloyd Webber musical.

He also received a standing ovation from the rest of the judges.

He delivered a performance of comic ventriloquism with chicken puppet Chuck who flirted with judge Alesha Dixon before performing a song.

Amanda Holden praised Leahey for "providing the comic relief we needed".

David Walliams also threatened to leave the show if Born to Perform did not make it through to Sunday's final.

The dance group from Nottingham are made up of members who all have disabilities. After they performed, Walliams said: “I’m so pleased for you, I’m so proud I got to press the golden buzzer. It was full of joy, full of love, full of passion and it’s the way you want the world to do. If you’re not in the finals on Sunday then I’m leaving the show.”

The second semi-final takes place tonight (31 May) with eight more acts to perform in front of the judges.

The winner of Britain's Got Talent will win a prize of £250,000 as well as a spot at this year’s Royal Variety Performance.
