The Lockheed Martin F-22 is the US Air Force’s best fighter. The Lockheed Martin F-16 is its most numerous fighter. But its workhorse fighter – the type which balances capability and mass – is the Boeing F-15E Strike Eagle, the multi-role version of the classic air-superiority fighter. The Eagle was the best fighter in the world before the F-22 came along.

The Royal Navy and the US Navy can fairly be described as the leading maritime forces of the Western world – though nobody would realistically suggest that the British fleet is in the same league as the USN.
A new radio-wave weapon which can destroy swarms of drones in one shot is to be used by the British military for the first time.
Multiple NATO countries have promised Ukraine powerful missiles that Kyiv previously used to hit high-value Russian targets.
With all the criticism that is being directed at Israel over its conduct of the war in Gaza, one essential fact is constantly overlooked: Hamas, the terrorist group responsible for provoking this conflict in the first place, is on the brink of suffering a catastrophic defeat.
The Israeli military is calling on the United Nations to investigate the presence of armed militants at a UN facility in southern Gaza after releasing video that shows armed men at the facility.
The government’s announcement that the Royal Marines are to receive six new multi-role support ships (MRSS) is a welcome one. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has cancelled all his foreign trips in an alarming sign of the grave situation for his depleted troops as Russia's new offensive continues. In an update on the battlefield situation, Ukraine's military said active combat clashes raged on in the north and northwestern parts of the town and a total of 18 Russian assaults were repelled. On Tuesday, Ukraine's general staff reported troops had fallen back from areas in Lukyantsi and Vovchansk, which is a mere three miles from Russia, "in order to save the lives of our servicemen and avoid losses".
When the Israel Defense Forces announced Hamas had been “dismantled” in northern Gaza, the troops had good reason to believe that their job was done.
"The Russians don't have the numbers necessary to do a strategic breakthrough," said Gen. Christopher Cavoli, Supreme Allied Commander Europe.
The modest gains Russian forces have made in their recent push into territory around the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv should serve as a wake-up call to Western leaders, and their continuing equivocation over just how much support to give to Kyiv’s war effort. Ukrainian units locked in street battles with the Kremlin’s forces in a key northeastern Ukraine town have halted the Russian advance, military officials in Kyiv claimed Thursday, though a senior Moscow official said the frontline push had enough resources to keep going. Russian attempts to establish a foothold in the town of Vovchansk, which is among the largest towns in Ukraine’s northeastern Kharkiv region with a prewar population of 17,000, “have been foiled,” Ukraine’s general staff said in a midday report.
The Russian attacks on nearly a dozen villages in the Kharkiv sector of northeast Ukraine threaten a major breakthrough at the opening of a rolling summer offensive. The situation is described by Ukrainians as “dynamic” and President Volodymyr Zelensky has swiftly replaced his Kharkiv commander. The European and American western allies seem only partly aware of what Ukrainian defeat may bring — though Rishi Sunak and Emmanuel Macron have begun to sound the alarm.
Egypt could consider downgrading relations with Israel if it presses on with a military operation in Gaza’s southernmost city of Rafah on the Egyptian border, an Egyptian official told CNN.

The Russian defence ministry did not say in its statement on the Telegram messaging app whether there was any damage as a result of the attack.
