Britney Spears has sparked worry amongst fans and people close to her as sources say she 'needed' her conservatorship for the sake of her mental health.

Back in 2008, the singing star was placed under a conservatorship, meaning her father Jamie Spears was able to control every aspect of her life from her spending to the type of phone she had.

After 13 years, this was brought to an end in 2021, much to the delight of fans and Britney herself. However, now that the pop sensation is free to make all her own decisions, sources claim her mental health is suffering.

Recent photos of Britney being escorted out from a Los Angeles hotel after reportedly being injured in a fight have sparked concern amongst fans, the Mirror reports. Barefoot, with messed-up hair and wearing barely any clothing, the star left the Chateau Marmont hotel and later claimed that she had only 'twisted her ankle'.

However, sources are worried that she could be experiencing another mental breakdown similar to the one she suffered in 2007 that led to her conservatorship.

Taking to Instagram earlier this week, Britney posted a video showing off her swollen ankle and blamed her mother, writing: "I know my mom was involved !!! I haven't talked to her in 6 months and she called right after it happened before the news being out !!! I was set up just like she did way back when !!!" She continued: "I wish I had grandparents !!! I can't stand her !!! I honestly don't care I will say it !!!"

In tears, Britney told followers that she had "really twisted her ankle last night like an idiot." She revealed that the injury came from trying to do a leap in the living room and she fell.

To the singer it was "so bad" and she said she "embarrassed" herself. She also mentioned how the paramedics came and caused a huge scene, "which was so unnecessary" and all she needed was ice.

In the aftermath, a source close to Britney told Page Six they were concerned for her wellbeing - even arguing that her conservatorship should have been kept in place.

They admitted: "I hate to say it, but the way this is all going - this is what we feared."

Britney paid an estimated $2m in legal fees to her father last month following claims that he'd fleeced her out of millions. However, an insider revealed to Page Six said the narrative of her dad being 'evil' and 'locking her away' was incorrect.

They said: "There is no question that Jamie Spears is a flawed father and the way that Britney was put to work in Vegas was awful. It should never have happened. However, there is also no question that the conservatorship - and the interventions prior to it - happened for a reason and it wasn't because her dad wanted to make some nefarious money grab. It was put in place because Britney has serious mental health issues and was going completely off the rails."
