Brits with hearing issues could claim £434 from DWP every month

Brits suffering from hearing issues could be eligible for a monthly payment of up to £434 from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). Those over the state pension age experiencing any kind of hearing problems might qualify for as much as £434 each month.

It's estimated that around 12 million adults in Great Britain live with some form of hearing loss or deafness, but only a fraction, about 35,633 people, are currently receiving extra financial help through benefits like Personal Independence Payment (PIP), Adult Disability Payment (ADP), or Attendance Allowance.

Attendance Allowance is a non-taxable benefit aiding more than 1.5 million individuals across Great Britain. It's designed for those who have a disability or illness and require assistance or supervision during the day, or sometimes at night.

Depending on the severity of the care needed, claimants can get either £72.65 or £108.55 per week, which translates to £290.60 and £434.20 when paid every four weeks. In the financial year 2024/25, approximately 8,616 people over the state pension age will be recipients of Attendance Allowance due to hearing issues.

There are 15 primary hearing conditions recognized by these three disability benefits, encompassing conductive and sensorineural hearing loss among others. The list of conditions is not static; it evolves, meaning that even if a condition isn't specifically mentioned, it may still be covered under an "unknown" category, reports the Mirror.

These are the hearing conditions that qualify for Attendance Allowance. Here are some common hearing issues that can be supported through disability benefits:

  • Chronic suppurative otitis media

  • Conductive hearing loss - Other causes/type not known
