As England take part in this year's Euro 2024 tournament, Three Lions supporters are being urged to rummage through their wardrobes for vintage football attire, which could fetch a tidy sum.

A study by UK Debt Expert revealed that replicas of the Admiral home shirt sported by England during the 1970 World Cup in Mexico could be worth as much as £525.

An examination of eBay sales - excluding autographed items - found the most valuable international jersey to be the Netherlands' 1988 home kit, worn during their victorious European championship campaign. This shirt's average auction price is a hefty £899.99.

The second most expensive is Italy's 1992 Lotto outfit, which recently fetched over £500 and has an average selling price of £575, despite Italy not qualifying for that year's tournament in Sweden.

Scottish fans might also want to have a look around - the Tartan Army's 1970 Umbro home kit is valued at a cool £310, even though Scotland didn't qualify either.

Discussing the potential goldmine that retro football shirts can represent, Maxine McCreadie, a personal finance expert at UK Debt Expert, remarked: "As Europe becomes a buzz for another summer of football mania, there's no better time to turn your vintage shirts into cash and score big on the nostalgia wave of games and tournaments from yesteryear.

"As fans across the continent relive classic moments and celebrate their favourite teams, T-shirts not only hold sentimental value, but provide an opportunity to make some extra cash. Some fans may even mark history while wearing history, as both Scotland and England vie to win the tournament for the first time."

She added: "To turn your wardrobe into a financial goal, make sure you check similar items recently sold online for an idea of how much you could be sitting on, and mention explicitly any unique aspects of the shirt, such as player signatures, special edition details, or specific historical significance."

Maxine added: "Whether you're looking to try and make a little extra money or simply intrigued by the potential value of your old football shirts, it could be worth checking their value online."

Also featuring in the top 10 most valuable shirts are Romania's 1994 Adidas home kit (£399.99), alongside Spain's 1966 home shirt and Ukraine's 2012 home shirt, each fetching £399.99.

The 1994 Hummel kit from Denmark is a collector's gem, fetching an average of £350, while the 1999 Adidas shirt from Portugal and Croatia's 1996 jersey are also highly sought after, priced at £299.99 and £279.99 respectively.

UK Debt Expert also recommends: "If you're fortunate enough to own football memorabilia, whether it's football shirts, cards or a scarf, it could be worth getting it valued.

"Check similar items recently sold online for an idea of how much you could be sitting on, and make sure to mention any unique aspects of the shirt, such as player signatures, special edition details, or specific historical significance."

"If available, include any proof of authenticity, and ensure that you include clear, detailed images that help to showcase the great condition of your shirt."
