Broad Takes Hat-Trick For England

Broad Forced To Sit Out England Training

England all-rounder Stuart Broad took a hat-trick in a warm up match to help England to beat a New Zealand XI in a Twenty20 warm up match.

Jos Buttler's maiden England half-century had put the tourists on course for a comfortable victory and they won by 46 runs.

It was great news for England at the start of their two-month tour that Broad showed his prowess in his first significant spell since recovering from the heel injury which ended his Test tour of India early.

Buttler's 21-ball 50, however, was the cornerstone of their 186 for three as he and Eoin Morgan made sure of a defendable total. Buttler ended the innings on 57 not out.

There were useful contributions from Eoin Morgan who made 48 not out and Luke Wright who scored 44.

Broad, who ended with three wickets for 22 runs, grabbed the glory at the end.

He took his hat-trick in the penultimate over - two caught deep in the leg-side deep and a third edging behind - as four wickets fell with the total stuck on 136 for the home team.

Broad removed Andrew Ellis, Ian Buttler and Matt Henry to complete his hat-trick before Dernbach claimed the final wicket.

England will play three Twenty20 internationals and as many one-day matches and Tests during their two-month tour of New Zealand.
