Brother and sister killed in suspected arson attack named by police

Two children who died after a suspected arson attack at their home in Birmingham have been identified by police.

Eight-year-old Saros Enris and his sister Leanor, six, were pulled from their burning home in Holland Road in the Hamstead area of the city in the early hours of Friday morning.

Neighbours tried to give them first aid but when emergency services arrived they said they discovered the youngsters "lifeless on the lawn".

The children were pronounced dead shortly after they arrived in hospital.

Their father, who is in his 40s, was discovered hours later in a burnt out car 35 miles away in Staffordshire.

He remains in a critical condition in hospital.

Detective Inspector Justin Spanner, from West Midlands Police, said: "This is an absolutely tragic set of circumstances and my thoughts are with everyone who has been affected.

"We are still at the early stages of understanding exactly what happened and why - but at this time I can confirm we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this investigation.

"I am still keen to hear from anyone who was in the area in the early hours of yesterday morning and who has not yet spoken to us, please do get in touch."

The children's mother was not seriously injured in the fire and is being treated as a witness.
