Sir Bruce Forsyth's family have broken their silence days after the telly legend died at 89.

The former Generation Game and Strictly Come Dancing presenter's spokesperson confirmed on Friday (August 18) that Brucie was "surrounded by his wife Wilnelia and all his children" when he passed away.

Three days on from the BBC airing an all-star primetime tribute in his honour, Sir Bruce's family shared a new statement with fans on The One Show on Monday night (August 21).

Reading the statement on behalf of Brucie's family, One Show presenter Matt Baker relayed: "Our hearts are truly broken and the tributes paid to him in the last few days have helped us tremendously through this very difficult time.

"It's been humbling and comforting to us to realise just how much Bruce was loved and how many lives he touched."

Sir Bruce Forsyth has been survived by his wife of 34 years Wilnelia, six children, nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

In addition to his family's statement, former Strictly Come Dancing co-presenter Tess Daly shared her own moving remembrance for her dear friend on Monday.

Alongside a photo of the two together on Instagram, Tess wrote: "Forever in my heart ❤️ This is one of my favourite photos with Bruce. It was the last time we worked together in the studio in November 2015, for the Children in Need Strictly Special. It's hard to believe he is gone.

"He will be so greatly missed by us all. I grew up watching him on Tv then spent 10 years pinching myself that I was standing by his side in the studio on Strictly Come Dancing.

"Thank you Brucie for the good times. I will never forget. Xxxxxxxx."
