Manchester United fans will be hoping to use their very own Portugal stars to bolster a pursuit of midfielder Joao Neves.

United have plans to strengthen Eirk ten Hag's midfield this summer with Casemiro likely to leave. Neves has been tipped to move to Manchester for some time following his displays in Portugal for Benfica.

One of the most promising central midfielders in Europe, the 19-year-old is also wanted by the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool. However, United supporters will be hoping their club use any connections to their favour.

In the current Portugal squad for Euro 2024, Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes are both with Neves. Focus will no doubt be on the tournament but the United duo could assist their club in making a big summer signing.

On Saturday, as Roberto Martinez's men prepare for their opener with Czech Republic on Tuesday, a video has surfaced on social media of Fernandes and Neves playing basketball with a football.

After the Benfica midfielder looped the ball into the ring, he turned to Fernandes, who was on the phone, and copied the United star's celebration of putting his hands to his ears. The video has been shared on a number of United fan channels on X, formerly Twitter, with many sparking a theory that Neves could be on his way to Old Trafford to link-up with Fernandes.

"I don’t know if (the) Man Utd rumours are true, but I know he is ready for that big jump," Fernandes said of his compatriot earlier this year. "He is an excellent player, he's with the national team. That's also why the big clubs are after him."
