Bruno Fernandes has shared a heartfelt message to Donny van de Beek following the confirmation of his departure from Manchester United.

Van de Beek, who joined the Reds in 2020 from Ajax for £35m, struggled to make an impact at Old Trafford making just 62 appearances during a disappointing four-year stint. The Dutch midfielder's exit marks the first significant departure of the summer for United, as they gear up to part ways with players such as Mason Greenwood under the new leadership of Sir Jim Ratcliffe, sporting director Dan Ashworth and technical director Jason Wilcox.

The 27-year-old, who had loan spells at Everton and Eintracht Frankfurt in recent seasons, is set to complete a move to La Liga outfit Girona. His transfer to the Spanish club is worth £3.8m for United.

Fernandes, who arrived at the Theatre of Dreams just before Van de Beek, took to social media to send a warm message to his former teammate. "You deserve the best," he wrote, accompanied by a red heart emoji.

Van de Beek also took to Instagram to share his feelings about leaving the club. Despite his on-pitch struggles, he seemed to have enjoyed his time off the pitch.

He penned: "Dear Manchester United family. Today is a memorable day as my adventure at the club comes to an end. I want to thank you all for your support throughout the years.

"From the moment we arrived at Manchester United, we felt extremely welcome and we are grateful for that. Thank you to everyone at the club for making us feel at home. A special thanks to all the fans that made these years unforgettable.

"Besides the football, the birth of our two children here ensures that Manchester will always have a special place in our hearts. Good luck to everybody, we'll meet again."

Fernandes was not the only player to respond to Van de Beek's farewell, as United's young English starlet Kobbie Mainoo chimed in too. Alongside Mainoo in expressing his feelings was Ex-Everton and Ajax midfielder Davy Klaassen, who shared a simple heart emoji.

Timothy Fosu-Mensah, the former United defender and a former academy mate of Van de Beek at Ajax, expressed his thoughts by posting multiple heart emojis in response to the parting message.
