The opening of a new West Orchards clothing shop has reignited the debate over what Coventry needs to attracts more shoppers, and readers in our comments section and on our Facebook page have been giving their thoughts.

The new store, named North West, opened on 18th April and offers clothes for a little as £2.99. Customers will not be able to return items and can only ask for an exchange within seven days, it is understood.

Andy Talbot, Asset Manager at West Orchards, said: “We are thrilled to welcome another new retailer to Coventry. North West has opened on our first floor offering great value clothing lines.”

Commenter Manfredcov says: “Apart from a few shops West Orchards is a waste of space. Should have knocked it down along with that horrible IKEA building.” Jase00 writes: “It’s fast becoming the new indoor market.”

User Royalbabe says: “Since when can you refuse a refund, and within seven days for an exchange? If something is not fit for purpose, surely you can be refunded in full!”

Over on our Facebook page, Sam Knibbs supports the new budget store: "Just because you don't need budget clothing doesn't mean everyone else is as flush with their cash as you lot. This will help out others who are struggling. You all need to grow up."

Neil Hardy thinks there isn't enough variety: "All we have is budget, so whilst you quite rightly say lots of people will want another shop like this, all I am saying is we as a city cater for that demographic rather than considering what others want. At the same time, budget doesn't bring people to the city centre. It drives them elsewhere".

Tommy K Musson disagrees: “There’s more than enough shops for people not struggling, we got Flannels, USC , JD Sports, Foot Locker, Foot Asylum, River Island , H&M and many more I could name, plus a 20 min drive to brum where there is even more shops. Budget shops like this are a blessing, not everyone can afford to spend big on clothes, understand that.”

Jodie Louise agrees with Tommy: "There's lots of designer shops in the city centre, Flannels, Tessuti, Chameleon, and I think I've missed one off but there is lots of options."

Nicky Harrison added: "It's good to see an opening instead of a closing!"
