The worst robbery disguise ever? Hapless would-be thief raids store with plastic bag on his head

Police are hunting a bungling robber who held up a newsagents - with a shopping bag on his head.

CCTV footage was released following the robbery at ‘Day One’ store in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, on Friday, May 10.

At around 8.40am the hapless thief entered the shop with the plastic bag over his head, but foolishly forgot to cover his face.

After going behind the counter he demanded money from a shop assistant while brandishing a knife, before taking cash from the till and walking out the store.

DC Paula Mowbray from the Local Crime Unit at Hemel Hempstead Police Station, said: ‘It is quite unusual for a robbery to be committed where the suspect uses a carrier bag as a means to attempt to conceal their identity.

‘We would like to speak with the man pictured as he may be able to assist our enquiries. I would also like to hear from anyone who may recognise him.’

A spokesman for Hertfordshire Constabulary confirmed the staff member was not injured during the incident.

Police have also appealed for anyone with information to get in touch with the force by calling 101.
