Yahoo News Burberry to make hospital gowns and masks for the NHS
Burberry has announced the generous ways in which it will be helping in the fight against the global Covid-19 pandemic. The British fashion house will use its supply chains and facilities to manufacture hospital gowns and masks for the NHS, and will supply funding to the University of Oxford's vaccine research, as well as making a contribution to a number of charities combatting food poverty.
According to a press release sent out this weekend, the fashion brand aims to fast-track the supply of more than 100,000 face masks to the NHS, using its factory in Yorkshire (the output of which is usually Burberry's trademark trench coats) to manufacture both gowns and masks.
Alongside this charitable plan, the house will also be donating funds to the University of Oxford's vaccine research, which is due to begin human trials in April. And finally, Burberry will also be contributing to two UK-based charities which are tackling food poverty, The Felix Project and FareShare.
"In challenging times, we must pull together," chief executive officer, Marco Gobbetti said. "The whole team at Burberry is very proud to be able to support those who are working tirelessly to combat Covid-19, whether by treating patients, working to find a vaccine solution or helping provide food supplies to those in need at this time."
