Burglary suspect: trap house 'for anybody and everyone'

Apr. 13—WESTWOOD — Four individuals were indicted on burglary and drug charges after Boyd County Sheriff's deputies busted down the door of an alleged "trap house" in Westwood last month.

Per court records, deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 400 block of Wheatley Road on March 29.

The reporting party, the actual owner of the home, told dispatchers he believed multiple people were inside of the home without his permission, adding at least one person was "hiding inside the attic."

Once at the residence, deputies made contact with Darrell Sagraves, 65, of Ashland, in the driveway where he allegedly admitted to possessing methamphetamine and "possible fentanyl."

According to Sagraves's arrest citation, the deputy reported he discovered more than 7 grams of methamphetamine individually weighed and bagged out, seemingly for distribution.

Once inside, deputies located Sarah Barker, 34, of Catlettsburg, and Butch Castle, 46, of Westwood in an upstairs bedroom and later Mark Hopkins, 47, of Flatwoods in the attic space.

Despite the "no trespassing" signs posted on the property, Hopkins reportedly told deputies the Wheatley Road home was "used as a trap house for anybody and everyone who wanted to hang out there to sleep or use drugs."

Upon a search of the residence, deputies located drug paraphernalia, Narcan and suspected heroin, according to court records.

On Tuesday, a Boyd County grand jury found probable cause to indict the alleged squatters on charges of second-degree burglary, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of heroin.

Sagraves faces an additional heroin possession charge and trafficking more than two grams of methamphetamine, a class C felony. He is held on a $125,000 cash bond.

The remaining defendants are held on $75,000 bonds.
