Bury pub closes temporarily due to building maintenance

A popular railway pub in Bury has announced it will be closing its doors temporarily due to building maintenance.

The Trackside pub at Bury Bolton Street Station is usually open seven days a week and was named Pub of the Year by the Rochdale, Oldham and Bury branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) in 2022.

In a statement on social media on Tuesday, a spokesperson said: “Due to circumstances beyond our control The Trackside will be closed until further notice.

"Watch this space for updates as and when they become available.”

The bar later added that the temporary closure is related to building maintenance and are “hopeful that the Trackside will be open again soon".

Situated on Platform 2 of the East Lancashire Railway, the pub offers visitors views of its steam and diesel trains from the platform beer garden.

They recently added an additional 100 seats to the venue in a classic 20th Century railway carriage located just outside the bar.

East Lancashire Railway (ELR) is also home to Buffer Stops bar at Rawtenstall station and host several ale events on the heritage railway.

The railways famous Real Ale Trail guides guests through the history and heritage of the local area with a particular focus on the region’s long brewing traditions.

The ELR introduced a new Hike for Your Hops excursion earlier this year which offers people the chance to hop on and off the train with the expertise of a dedicated tour guide sharing stories of local landmarks.

The Heywood line first opened in 1841 as part of the Manchester and Leeds Railway and was a key part of the Industrial Revolution in Lancashire.

No date has yet been confirmed for the pub reopening.
