The site boss of an international flavours and fragrances manufacturer based in Bury St Edmunds has become the new president of Suffolk Chamber of Commerce.

Treatt UK site and sales director Nick Evans succeeded Catherine Johnson, a partner at Ipswich-based law firm Birketts.

She came to the end of her two-year tenure at the chamber at its 140th annual general meeting on Tuesday (June 24).

Treatt employs 370 people globally and has its new 112,000sq ft headquarters at Suffolk Park in 2020. The company - which appointed its new chief executive David Shannon this month - saw revenues rise to £147m in 2023.

"His expertise is expected to guide Suffolk Chamber in continuing its mission to support and enhance the local business environment," it added.

Mr Evans said he was "honoured" to take on the role.

“Catherine has set a high standard with her unwavering dedication and impactful initiatives," he said.

"I look forward to building on her legacy and working closely with our members to address the challenges and opportunities facing Suffolk’s business community.”

Ms Johnson was described as "an exemplary leader" during her term as president.

"Her tenure has been marked by significant accomplishments, including the strengthening of the chamber’s advocacy efforts, the launch of several key initiatives to support local businesses, and a commitment to fostering a resilient and sustainable business environment in Suffolk," the chamber said.

Ms Johnson said it had been "a privilege" to serve as president.

"I am proud of what we have achieved together, and I am confident that Nick will continue to drive the Chamber forward. I extend my heartfelt thanks to the chamber team, our members, and the wider business community for their support and collaboration,” she said.

Chamber chief executive John Dugmore said the organisation was focused on the needs of the members and the local business community.

He welcomed a number of newly appointed board members - including new vice president Matt Moss of SMART Modular Buildings and new board members Marlini Finney, chief operating officer and company secretary at St Elizabeth Hospice and Doug Field, chief executive at East of England Co-op.

He thanked Ginny Idehen, Jim Moretta, and Paul Briddon for their dedicated service as board directors after they completed their full terms.
