Bus company slapped with fine after one of its vehicles is caught on camera - in a bus lane

A local council has been mocked after sending a fine to a bus company for one of its vehicles driving in a bus lane.

The fine was sent to Connexions bus service in Leeds by the city council after one of its buses was caught on camera stopped in a bus lane to collect passengers.

The enforcement notice points out that the single-decker bus committed the 'alleged bus lane contravention' under the Traffic Management Act 2004 on York Road in Leeds on 24 October.

Pictures attached to the letter, named a 'case evidence report', show the vehicle caught on camera in the bus lane at 1.23pm that day.

Sharing images of both the letter and the pictures on Facebook, Connexions said: "Top marks to Leeds City council here….The bus being fined for being in a bus lane is stopping at a stop to pick passengers up."

It added: "Clearly the system doesn’t work."

The company's owner was reported as saying the bus was relatively new to the company, which covers West and North Yorkshire, so did not have its colours yet but was still registered as a bus.

"I’m going to frame the letter and put it in the office," he was quoted as saying.

Leeds City Council, which issued the enforcement notice, has reportedly apology for the mistake, saying the ticket was issued in error and had now been cancelled.
