Busy London underground station reopens as man fights for his life

A busy underground station in London which closed for two-hours after an emergency services incident has reopened.

Officers were called to reports of a person under a train at London Cannon Street at around 3.20pm yesterday (June 20).

An ambulance crew, a paramedic in a fast response car, an incident response officer, and members of the hazardous area response team from London Ambulance Service also attended.

A man was found injured and taken to hospital where his injuries were assessed as life-threatening.

London Cannon Street was closed with all trains suspended as the incident was being dealt with.

The Circle, District, Hammersmith, and City lines were partially shut which was causing severe delays.

There were also no services between Whitechapel and Embankment, Aldgate and Edgware Road, and Liverpool Street and Barking.

All services have since returned back to normal and London Cannon Street has reopened, according to TfL.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to Cannon Street underground station at around 3.20pm (20 June) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Paramedics also attended, and a person was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.”

A spokesperson for London Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 3.21pm today (20 June) to reports of a person under a train at Cannon Street Underground Station.

“We sent resources to the scene, including an ambulance crew, a paramedic in a fast response car, an incident response officer and members of our hazardous area response team (HART).

We also dispatched a trauma team from London’s air ambulance, which consisted of a doctor and a paramedic in a car.

“We treated a man at the scene and took him to a major trauma centre.”
