New bus stops are being installed to improve biodiversity and air quality.

East Sussex County Council's "buzz stops" are made with sedum roofs which are bee-friendly and can also absorb carbon.

The council said this will help to improve air quality and allow bees to thrive.

Two of the newest bus shelters installed are in Pelham Rise, Peacehaven.

A spokesman for Peacehaven Town Council said: "No more standing in the rain or wind, or on a wet muddy verge.

"Peacehaven Town Council are pleased to announce that a new sustainable green sedum-roof bus shelter and two hardstands, each with dropped kerb access, have been installed by ESCC on Pelham Rise.

"Peacehaven Town Council’s planning and highways committee designed the shelter with ease of access in mind, along with protection from multi-directional wind and rain."

The county council said the new bus shelters are part of its Bus Service Improvement Plan which will also see the new stops installed across Lewes and Hailsham.
