Cornwall's only city has welcomed a new café which serves Buddha bowls, waffles and 'freakshakes'. The Hideaway, tucked away on Kenwyn Street in Truro is a community café which opened its doors on April 23.

The space was formerly known as Little Roo’s Play Café and offered a small sensory room for children under five, as well as a seated area where families could enjoy light lunches, snacks, tea and coffee. However, its owner, Jo Long, said the decision to rebrand came about because Little Roo's had not been busy enough to stay as it was.

While she added it was a "hard decision to make", Jo said the current economic climate meant it was time for a change. The Hideaway is now open from Tuesday to Saturday, 9am to 5pm and offers a range of light bites and sweet treats.

This includes, sweet and savoury waffles, tea, coffee, cakes and freakshakes. The menu is also coeliac friendly. Like Little Roo's Play Café, The Hideaway also has a play room for small children, and it will be hosting a number of activities for families - such as pottery painting and stay & play sessions.

Dozens of dedicated customers took to the comments on Facebook to share their sadness over the closure of Little Roo's and wish Jo and The Hideaway luck for the future. One person wrote: "I’m so sorry to hear this we have loved coming to you, but look forward to The Hideaway!"

Someone else said: "Little Roo’s has been a god send for shopping trips to Truro with the little ones! We love coming in for a Buddha bowl and a coffee while the kids play! I hope they’ll still be on the menu at The Hideaway!"

Another commented: "We have loved coming to Little Roos and we will most certainly keep coming once you reopen as The Hideaway. So sorry that you have had to make such a hard business decision and I hope this new venture works out for you."
