California blanketed by thick snow as winter storm hits

California has been blanketed by a thick layer of snow as a winter storm batters the state.

This video shows the snowy scene along a road near Big Bear city in San Bernardino County.

According to local forecasters, the worst of the storm is expected to hit late on Friday, 24 February, and to extend into the following morning.

Meteorologists have warned that this could be the worst storm to hit the state in years due to the risk of flooding and heavy snow.
