California Highway Crumbles Amid Winter Storm

A section of Highway 1 in Big Sur, California, was shut on March 10 due to damage from recent winter storms, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

Footage from the CHP showed a rockslide covering a section of the highway, and water pouring over the edge of the road. CHP said the highway was closed from Elephant Seal Vista Point to Deetjen’s Inn.

According to local news a nearly 20-mile stretch of the highway will reopen on Sunday, March 12, but the road will remain closed in the Mill Creek area for approximately six weeks. Credit: California Highway Patrol Monterey via Storyful
