California Officials Toss Bales of Hay off Aircraft in 'Bovine Bailout' to Save Cattle Stranded by Storm

Officials delivered hay via helicopter to cattle stranded by winter storms in Humboldt County on March 8, according to the California National Guard.

Footage shows members of the National Guard dropping bales of hale off the aircraft. The guard was joined by California Fire Department and the US Coast Guard to assist with about 2,500 free-range cattle spread over many miles in Humboldt County, local media reported.

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office has received “multiple reports of cattle dying off,” said Sheriff William Honsal in a video announcing the airdrop initiative, according to local media citing the Sheriff.
