The storyline saw Miss Higgins reunite with the son she had given up at birth, filling her with immense joy. Her life was turned upside down when her long-lost son Victor arrived, but their story took a heart-wrenching turn.

Their reunion was both sweet and fleeting; despite their years of yearning, their newfound bond was tragically cut short by Victor's untimely death. The loss of Victor shortly after their reunion left Miss Higgins in utter despair.

However, the upcoming Christmas special seems to offer a glimmer of happiness for Miss Higgins as she is seen getting into the festive spirit with an enormous pile of Brussels sprouts, reports the Express.

A sneak peek image posted on the show's official Instagram on Thursday (July 4) shows actress Georgie Glen in character, peeling sprouts at a rustic table.

Teasing a new storyline for the doctor's trusty assistant, the caption hinted: "We've just got our hands on this photo from the set of the Call the Midwife Christmas Special, which comes to your screens this holiday season 2024! ".

"It's a wonderful behind-scenes portrait of our own Georgie Glen, as the redoubtable Miss Higgins. But we couldn't help noticing a great profusion of that most Christmas of British vegetables..... SPROUTS! Lots and lots of them! ".

The post went on: "Now the humble Brussels sprout is a vegetable that... how can we put it... divides opinion amongst our yuletide diners - particularly children! ".

"There is an enduring love/hate relationship with this maligned staple amongst the British - some will even complain of its powers to induce rather more digestive activity than is desirable or polite! ".

"And yet it remains a centrepiece of the traditional British Christmas meal. And the more curious amongst you might wonder why there are quite so many spouts being prepared by Millicent here.... All will be revealed! ."
