Call Me by Your Name director Luca Guadagnino working on film inspired by Bob Dylan's Blood on the Tracks

Call Me by Your Name director Luca Guadagnino is working on a film inspired by Bob Dylan's classic 1975 album Blood on the Tracks.

Guadagnino, who recently directed a remake of the horror film Suspiria, has reportedly teamed up with Richard LaGravanese to tell "a multiyear story, set in the Seventies, that [LaGravanese] and Guadagnino had invented, drawing on the album's central themes".

Guadagnino told the New Yorker that a producer who owned the "theatrical rights" to Dylan's record had approached him about the project. He reportedly agreed to take on the film on one condition: If LaGravanese penned the script.

LaGravanese added of the characters: "When they're repressing, we dramatise the repression, and what that does to them. And we dramatise what happens when you let your passions take over too much."

Blood on the Tracks was conceived in the midst of the dissolution of Dylan's marriage to his then-wife Sara, following a decade-long relationship.

Dylan is releasing his highly anticipated Bootleg Series instalment More Blood, More Tracks – a six-disc, in-depth look at the album's creation with dozens of unheard takes on the songs – in November.

Guadagnino's Suspiria, which features a score by Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke, is released in UK cinemas on 16 November.
