“When Calls the Heart” costar gives update on Mamie Laverock after fall: 'She's recovering, slowly'

Erin Krakow also said Laverock's family wishes to share "their immense gratitude to [the] 'When Calls the Heart' community for all their support."

When Calls The Heart star Erin Krakow is giving fans an update on her castmate Mamie Laverock's recovery after she fell from a five-story balcony last month and underwent multiple surgeries.

Krakow, who plays Elizabeth Thornton on the Hallmark Channel series, told Entertainment Tonight that she's been speaking with Laverock's family. "She is recovering slowly," Krakow said. "She is on the mend. I've been in touch with her parents and it's a really tough time for the family right now. They have sent their immense gratitude to [the] When Calls the Heart community for all their support."

Laverock, who plays Rosaleen Sullivan on the show, was first hospitalized in Winnipeg on May 11 after suffering an unspecified medical emergency, before being transferred to a different hospital in Vancouver. Her family claimed that she was there receiving "intensive treatment for the past two weeks" when she was "escorted out of a secure unit of the hospital and taken up to a balcony walkway from which she fell five stories" on May 26.

The family said in an interview with the Los Angeles Times that they plan to take legal action against the hospital, and that the fall was not "intended" or a suicide attempt. The hospital has said it can't comment on the particulars of the incident due to patient privacy.

Krakow's update comes about a week after Laverock's family shared a lengthy update on a GoFundMe they set up on the 19-year-old actress' behalf, in which they said she was still in "tremendous pain" while recovering from the tragic incident.

"Her body has been shattered," they wrote. "She has undergone two 11 hour surgeries with two doctors working on her, a three hour surgery, and another surgery today. We have nothing but gratitude for the doctors and nurses who have been exemplary in her care since May 26."

They also clarified an earlier update that said she was doing well, noting, "Mamie is 'doing well' comparatively to when she arrived. Doing well because she has survived these extensive surgeries. She is enduring tremendous pain and continues to not give up."

Laverock's family said in the meantime they were taking things with her recovery day by day. "We can only hold onto the miracles of each day and continue to thank everyone for their prayers and marvel at the miracles of her story," they concluded. “Our daughter loves her life and loves her family and is fighting hard everyday.”
