Cambs village restaurant known for its locally-sourced ingredients named best in county
A popular Cambridgeshire village restaurant has been named the best in the county at the 2024 Muddy Stilettos Awards. Provenance Kitchen Brix + Mortar, in Whittlesford, received the honour at the lifestyle website's regional awards.
The restaurant is a short drive from Cambridge down the M11 and has gained a popular reputation amongst locals. It serves food prepared with seasonal produce by local farmers, many of which are sourced within a five-mile radius of the restaurant.
The restaurant says it focuses on keeping things simple by cooking locally sourced meats, fish, vegetarian and vegan dishes with a brick-built wood-fired hearth.

The venue is one of four places in the county to be recognised at the awards. Reviewers on platforms such as Tripadvisor have praised its 'lovely atmosphere' and 'extremely tasty food'.
A statement from the restaurant said: "We did it! Winner of Best Restaurant category for Cambridgeshire and Suffolk. Thank you to everyone that voted for us, it means so much."
Provenance Kitchen started with an airstream and converted horse box, bringing restaurant-quality food to the streets of Cambridge. Its first restaurant, Brix + Mortar, opened its doors in 2019, with menus changing each month.
The current lunch menu consists of mozzarella burrata for £12, Turkish eggs for £12, whole chargrilled sea bream for £26, and chargrilled aged Hereford steak for £30. Desserts include chocolate torte, sticky toffee pudding and caramelised lemon tart, which are £9 each.
Last year, it added a wedding and event space called The Orchard Barn to the site. This includes an open-sided barn, orchard, and stretch tent.
The Muddy Stilettos Awards acknowledge regional winners in a number of categories, including destination pub, family attraction and cafe, with all of them moving on to the national finals in July. You can find the full list of winners here.
