Cameron Peak Fire Glows Near Estes Park as 'Extreme Fire Behavior' Expected

Extreme fire behavior was expected on October 16 from the Cameron Peak Fire near Estes Park, Colorado, as dry, windy conditions fuelled the blaze, forcing evacuations and road closures.

Estimated to have burned 173,536 acres since August 13, the fire prompted authorities on October 16 to call for areas west of Estes Park and east of Loveland and Fort Collins to be evacuated.

“Extreme fire behavior and rapid spread rates are anticipated to continue through the night and throughout the day on Saturday due to winds up to 70 mph and exceptionally dry fuels,” firefighting authorities wrote in an InciWeb update. Credit: daniel_8918 via Storyful
