Campaigning kicked off on Monday for France's snap parliamentary election which opinion polls suggest the far-right National Rally will win, with President Emmanuel Macron's centrist alliance coming third, behind a leftwing ticket. The poll suggests the eurosceptic, anti-immigration RN will get 35% of the votes in the first round on June 30, with 26% for a fragile alliance of leftwing parties, and just 19% for Macron. The second round will take place on July 7.

The polls got it wrong again, overestimating Keir Starmer
Few things in British politics seem familiar this morning. So it’s a welcome feature of this election that the pollsters have seemingly, once again, got it wrong. They overestimated the Lib Dems in 2010. They failed to spot a Tory majority in 2015. They largely didn’t foresee Brexit or Theresa May losing her majority. Now add to that list the apparent overestimation of Labour’s lead.
